Vacation Pics to Come

Hopefully in the next day or so, I will post some pictures from our Disney World vacation once I take the time to upload them. Sorry Robin!!

The Closet/Dressing Room

For some reason, I am having trouble putting into words the description of what is going on in these photos. It will be a little difficult for you to get an exact idea since I do not have pictures from every angle. You really have to see it in person; so, I will describe things the best I can...

This room (we call it the Ragedy Ann and Andy room; hince the old wallpaper) was directly connected to what will be our room. You could enter this room from our bedroom or from the hall. Since this room was on the smaller side and our bedroom had no closet or a connected bathroom, we decided to make it a closet/ dressing area. The bathroom will be right off this room, but pics of that will come later.

So, we chisled down the plaster and ugly wallpaper and completely tore down the walls that stood in between this room and "our" room and also the hall.

We had a brick layer come in and repoint the brick because we are keeping the wall you see here exposed. The little "masterbath" will go behind the plastic in this picture.

Up goes the framing for the walls that will separate this room from the bedroom and also from the hall. There will be no door into the hall like there was before.

More framing up! Starting to insulate the walls. Some recessed lights hung. Notice the nice new window!! Had NASTY rotten wood windows that were NOT INSULATED at all!!!

The wall in this picture is in our bedroom. Right in between the brick and where the wall ends is open to walk into the closet/dressing area. We decided not to put a door there because the window is lined up with the open spot. That way we will have a lot of light from outside. Hope this makes sense!!!

At this time, we still have a little more drywalling to do in this room. Our goal this weekend is to have all of that finished. We are getting close to finishing this room and our bedroom. Our room has primer on the walls, so now I need to pick out paint....any suggestions on colors? I thought about a latte-like color, but someone told me that was too plain. We will be getting a new bed set when this is done, so I don't need to match what I have currently. Anyway, I will post more on these rooms as we approached the end. Our next room to complete after these two are finished will be the tiny masterbath. We have done a lot of demoing to many rooms; now we need to complete them. My next post will probably be on the hall bath and laundry closet since we have done a lot of work there. So, stay tuned......

Falling behind

Hey... I haven fallen behind on new postings of our house. We just got back from a week in Disney World (can I say, totally exhausting!!!). Don't get me wrong, we had a wonderful time. It just strips you of all your energy!!!! I will definitely get some new pics up this week! I just need to get caught up on house chores, laundry, emails, etc. You know, everything that piles up while you are gone and waits for you when you get back. It doesn't help that we lost an hour last night! Until then, have a great week. Back to work...UGH!!!!

A New Bedroom in the Works

This room has been in the works since last December. If it does not get finished in the next month or so, I just don't know what I might do! Maybe kill my husband! Just kidding...he better be glad that I love him too much!

We took down all the nasty plaster and also knocked down walls. We took down all the walls on the second floor and reconfigured the upstairs (more to come in later blogs).

The framing is up and insulation in. This room is SO quiet now!

This is the door into our soon-to-be bedroom. Sorry for all the construction mess in the background of all the pictures!

YEA for the drywall!!! We are almost there with this room! I CANNOT wait!!!! I am very excited about the exposed brick on the one side of the room. There are better pictures of it.

The ceiling in the bedroom.

The bedroom

I do not know what I was thinking when I told my husband of one year that "sure, we can get the house and completely renovate it ourselves." To be honest, I cried my eyes out the first time we came to see our house. Nick was so excited at the thought of redoing a house (that we LIVE in, I might add). After I gave it a little thought, I went along with it, thinking it would be a great investment. Now I am almost going insane. I know, I know, it will all be worth it in the end. I'll start with what will be our bedroom VERY soon!!

Don't you just LOVE the green carpet!

Too bad we aren't keeping it!

Room by Room

I have been sitting here trying to think of the best way to present this to you all and decided that I will show our progress room by room. I will try to present a room (thus far) each day or so. Like I said, we have come a LONG way and still have a LONG way to go!! Since I have already shown you our new front doors and new windows in my first blog, I have posted a picture of them when we bought the house.....
I'll post our bedroom next since that is the room that is closer to being finished. Have a great Saturday!

Welcome to 1526 (our home)

I have finally decided to start a "blogspot" site for Nick and I to share with others what is going on in our life...so bare with me as I learn how to use this site!! Nick and I bought our first "fix-it-upper" house back in the fall of 2006. We bought this very OLD rowhouse in the city in hopes to bring it more up-to-date on our own. Our envisions with this house are exposed brick walls, high ceilings, hardwood floors, roof-top deck, etc. We have done a lot up to this point, and we want to share stories and pictures with you and of what is to come. So enjoy!
